Spain is a treasure containing a wide and deep mixture of cultures,
art, music, history, architecture, sports, cinema, cuisine and life.
The predictable weather, summer sun and fantastic atmosphere have
attracted holiday seekers from Europe for decades. Yet Spain has
much more to it than holiday resorts and tourist havens. It is entrenched
with the history of past empires, significant Muslim influences,
the artistic heritage of Goya, Picasso, and Dali and in the romanticism's
of Don Quixote, Hemingway and the National Brigades.
Spain, the second largest West- European nation, has a changing
geographical landscape that ranges from the Almer’a deserts to the
green swamps of Galicia. From the sunny plains of La Mancha to the
jagged, snow capped ranges of Picos de Europa. Most of the tourists
come to enjoy Spain in the summer months of July and August, when
temperatures can soar to well above 30 all across the nation. In
the winter the rainy north gives way to snow in the
Galicia and Pyreneans, creating some fantastic ski resorts. The
best seasons for visiting the north are in the Summer, Andalusia
is best experienced in the spring and the central and southern coasts
of the country are most pleasant in the fall.
Whether you are looking for an urban experience, a natural heaven,
a secluded beach or to be the life of the party, Spain will offer
something that will accommodate any taste and whim. Madrid, the
capital, is one of the largest and busiest cities in Europe. The
huge metropolitan includes some of the world’s best museums, including
the Prado which focuses on Spanish, Flemish and Italian art from
the 15th- through the 19th centuries. In the summer the city is
practically abandoned by its local inhabitants, all looking for
vacations of their own, so accommodation is available and is relatively
cheap.
If you visit just one city on a holiday
to Spain, it should be Barcelona.
This sophisticated, glamorous, romantic city has some of the best
cultural, architectural and historical offerings in the world. The
magnificent gothic architecture merges with the Gaudi masterpieces
that are spread throughout. The La Rambla Boulevard and the surrounding
squares offer some of the most exciting urban pulse found in Europe.
Other fascinating cities include Toledo, Valencia, Granada and Seville.
The Balearic isles along the Mediterranean have some of the most
famous resorts in the world and have become synonymous with summer
getaways for all Europeans. In addition to the insane nightlife
and the endless beaches, the local population has managed to maintain
its heritage and customs, creating an interesting mix of authenticity
and tourism based culture. Other resort style destinations include
the Canary Islands off the Atlantic coast which offer similar resort
style destinations and are heaving with tourism in the summer months.
Spain has many international airports including Madrid, Barcelona,
Bilbao, Seville, Malaga, Valencia and the islands of Majorca,
Ibiza and more. Domestic transportation within the cities is easy
and renting a car is a fantastic way to get around. Public transportation
is available pretty much everywhere and trains and busses are always
available to take you to whatever destination you wish outside of
the cities.
Flights to Spain are available in abundance and prices depend on
time of the year, destination and availability. Many travel sites
will offer package deals that include airfare, accommodation and
car rental. These will significantly reduce the cost of your holiday
and help you plan an itinerary well in advance.
Spain is the perfect destination for your holiday, whether you
are in search of rest, relaxation, activity, excitement, culture
or history. Whether you are out for a family vacation, a romantic
getaway or a lifetime experience of fun in the sun, you are sure
to find your perfect destination in Spain.
