To Spain
Spain is a treasure containing a wide and deep mixture of cultures,
art, music, history, architecture, sports, cinema, cuisine and
life. The predictable weather, summer sun and fantastic atmosphere
have attracted holiday seekers from Europe for decades. Yet
Spain has much more to it than holiday resorts and tourist havens.
It is entrenched with the history of past empires, significant
Muslim influences, the artistic heritage of Goya, Picasso, and
Dali and in the romanticism's of Don Quixote, Hemingway and
the National Brigades. Spain, the second largest West- European
nation, has a changing geographical landscape that ranges from
the Almer’a deserts to the green swamps of Galicia. more

Frank Evens British Bullfighter
Frank
Evens British Bullfighter
Even from the top ranks of the rickety benches he sticks out
from the rest of the field - hardly surprising, he's Frank Evans,
Britain's only bullfighter. But whether it's hick-town Andalucia
or the soaring heights of Las Ventas in Madrid, Spain's most
famous bullring, when that big, black temper on the hoof makes
a run at you you'd better be ready to stand your ground - and
Frank Evans has done it more times than any other non-Latin
bullfighter in the history of the spectacle. more

Holidays in Calpe Spain
Holidays in Calpe Spain
Calpe
is located in the Spanish region of Alicante on the Costa Blanca
and located about 35km south of Denia. We drove along the N332
rather than the A-7, which is the main toll highway. The drive
along the N332 was very scenic, and we stopped at Gata, the
home of hand-crafted wicker goods - you have never seen so many
wicker hats, baskets, and chairs on display in one street before!
And you can visit Gata's guitar factory, where handmade guitars
are lovingly fashioned from rosewood and mahogany, or stop at
one of the many ceramic shops situated along the road – great
place to stock up on souvenirs. We found Calpe to be our favorite
village visited during our stay in Costa Blanca – it was charming,
with a great deal to offer. The local residents were friendly
and all facilities were clean and well cared for. more

Things To Do In Benidorm Spain
Things To Do In Benidorm Spain
Poor
old Benidorm; for years it been hammered by the media - and
more particularly in the recent appalling soap opera on ITV
bearing the resort's name - as being elbow to elbow Union Jack
shorts slung below bulging pink beer bellies who's owner's razored
skulls are protected by knotted hankies or baseball caps worn
backwards. hilst this may have briefly been the case in the
late 70's and early 80's when British tour companies flooded
the resort with a fortnight's cheap holiday, all-in for 3s/6d,
it was a relatively short-lived phenomenon. This image disappeared
long ago, but is unfortunately maintained through malicious
press (often lazy, usually salacious and, sadly - more often
than not - British) who prefer to jibe at a sitting sun-drenched
duck than actually look at just how far the city has come since
those larger-lout, San Miguel swilling days. more

Visiting Velencia Spain
Visiting Velencia Spain
Valencia
is the third largest city in Spain, and its prominence is growing
with the ongoing construction of the futuristic "City of Arts
and Sciences" and the new Palacio de Congresos convention center
(designed by Norman Foster). The autonomous region of Valencia,
with the city of Valencia as its anchor city, is famous for
not only its delicious oranges, but the dish called paella is
said to have originated here. Usually made with rice and seafood,
there are also tasty variations of paella featuring various
meats and even noodles as well. Valencia is located on the eastern
coast of Spain, along the Mediterranean Sea and part of the
sun-blessed Costa del Azahar region famous for its beaches and
orange plantations ("azahar" translates into "orange blossom").
The riverbed of the Turia River curls around the atmospheric
old town. The waterflow has been diverted away from the city
center due to serious floods, so the dry riverbed has been wonderfully
recycled into the Jardines del Turia with a variety of leisure
uses: gardens, soccer pitches, playgrounds. more

Rice With Everything
Rice With Everything
As
you drive down the short stretch of dual carriageway that joins
Valencia to the beaches at El Saler during late May or early
June you soon become aware of what looks like a vast, vivid
green cricket pitch badly in need of a trim. These are the rice
paddies of the Albufera, one of the largest in Spain and part
of an area that was, in Roman times, the most productive agricultural
region in the whole of the then known world. ake a ride on one
of the barcas, the long wooden boats that work the lake, with
their bright umbrellas keeping off the heat of the sun, and
you get a close-up view of the dense reed 'islands', known locally
as matas. There are six of these isletas, where herons stride
regally, and above you you'll see cattle egrets, little crested
pochards, mallards and wigeon, a few of the 250 species that
visit the Albufera, ninety of which use it as a nesting ground.

Benidorm,
which is located just 20 minutes north of the city of Alicante
and 10 minutes south of Calpe on the Costa Blanca coast Spain,
is such as action-packed city. Even though it has a beautiful
stretch of soft sandy beaches, we should leave this leisure
activity for the end because there are so many kinds of tourist
parks to visit around Benidorm. The biggest attraction in Benidorm:
Terra Mitica This park in English is called ´Mythical Land´,
because it is a theme park which takes us back to the ancient
civilizations of Rome, Egypt and Greece, all of which were Mediterranean
civilizations. As we all know, the heroes from those times were
very brave, not letting anything or anyone frighten them. Do
you think you will be like them after having ridden on the topsy
turvy roller coaster? Or controlling your heartbeat after riding
on many of the other attractions especially set up for you?
Maybe you think you will recover a little after watching one
of the gladiator shows? Your adrenalin will be pumping fast
with all the professional actors making ancient life comeso
close to you. There is also a part of this park for adventurous

Think You Need A Holiday?
Think You Need A Holiday?
We
all do! Just getting away from the bad weather is reason enough.
However, have you thought of the other benefit's a holiday can
bring. We are all in a rut, to some degree. Housewives are basically
stuck in the house, doing the same chores over and over again.
Workers do the same job day in and day out and even if you enjoy
what you do, a holiday break is such a well deserved tonic.
A holiday can be many things to different people, beach holidays,
walking, sailing, camping, climbing, cycling, skiing, caravan
in Dorset the list is endless but whatever is "your thing" they
all have one thing in common. CHANGE! more
